京の癒しcafe 月の花Tsuki no Hana (満月の花Mangetsu no Hana)

An 80-year-old machiya renovated into a café, 京の癒しcafe 月の花Tsuki no Hana is on 綾小路Ayanokoji Street between 堺町通Sakaimachi Street and 柳馬場通Yanaginobanba Street. When I read about it in one of my guide books a month ago and realized that it isn’t too far from where I work, I decided to go.

“Moon” in the name always grabs my attention.

I chose a cutely-shaped table for two near the staircase.

The theme of the café is 癒しiyashi (soothing) for the heart and body, so the menu is based on that concept.

I ordered the 肉団子のクリームソースグラタンランチniku-dango no kuriimu-soosu guratan ranchi (meatball gratin in a cream sauce), ¥800, which came with soup, salad, two sides and bread. Everything was delicious, full of flavor, and I also felt healthy after eating it.

?????????

I got a small version of the めっ茶抹茶Meccha-Maccha (“Very Green Tea”) and アイスオーガニック珈琲aisu ooganikku koohii (iced organic coffee) for ¥300 more. 福寿園抹茶Fukujuen matcha is used in the cake; the top layer is mousse while the thin bottom layer is cake.

I must be starting to like green tea sweets or the places that I go serve good green tea sweets; this café was no different. With it being pretty close to work, I’d like to go back and try other things on the menu again sometime.

Update: The café goes by the name “満月の花Mangetsu no Hana” now.
