I’d been meaning to go to イノダコーヒーInoda Coffee since I started visiting various cafés in Kyoto; Inoda Coffee being one of the most famous coffee shops in Kyoto having been around for over 70 years, they are found in many of the Kyoto café guides. I went the 本店Honten on 堺町通Sakaimachi Street south of 三条通Sanjo Street in early October last month for dessert and coffee after having lunch at Cosy cafe.
This isn’t the entrance but I’m sure many a person have been fooled.☺
This is the entrance.
The big and gorgeous room that one encounters first is for smokers; as a non-smoker, I was led to the smaller but nonetheless classy room in the back.

the way to the restrooms and the room that I mistook for the entrance first
I got the cake set, ￥880, with フォンダンショコラfondan shokora (fondant chocolat) and ホットカフェオーレhotto kafe oore (hot café au lait).
I expected that they would warm up my fondant chocolat so that the chocolate is melty and gooey like the name indicates but it was brought to me cold and solid…I was a bit disappointed. There was nothing wrong with the taste, though, it was quite good, but next time I’m going to make sure that they heat up the cake whether it’s their habit or not. The café au lait was good and I also like the cup in which it came. Some older gentlemen were seated next to me after I got my order and had had the opportunity to form the above opinion on it; they talked very loudly about how much Kyoto has changed over the years. It wasn’t as quiet a stay as I had hoped but I definitely want to go back again, even with a friend, and to try the meals that are offered as well.
