❤Hitori Kyoto’s Recommendations❤

For me, an ideal establishment, namely cafes, has the following qualities: 1) charming exterior (helps in getting curious customers through the door), 2) a cozy yet clean atmosphere that allows just enough privacy to make me want to stay for hours, whether I’m alone or with a friend3) non-smoking, 4) even if not the most unique around, (a substantial selection and amount of) tasty food and drinks available to order in any combination or as little as the customer wishes and 5) amiable staff…also, it helps when a café is open long and often enough to accommodate the various schedules of their regular and possible customers (although one really can’t expect much as far as this is concerned).

Seeing that I’ve bothered to write about certain cafes proves that I would like to remember those experiences but these are the ones to which I keep (or would like to keep) going back☺…in alphabetical order and no particular rank and with the possibility of changing, these are my favorite ones, the ones that I make a point to visit at least once a month and many of which I have even gotten to know the owners (indicated  in pink).

Thanks for your information of cafe in Kyoto.I often go to unicafe(Ichijyoji) which has Kuniyoshi Kaneko’s drawings and suffers delicious foods & drinks. If you are interested in this cafe, please go there once.

I really enjoy your blog and I’m especially grateful for your write ups of Whole Food cafe Apprivoser. I ve visited Kyoto 3 times and walked by the place several times till now. Have you ever visited Cafe Millet in Shizuhara? In October we went and had a delightful vegan lunch at Cafe Millet; after the meal, our host drove us to Ohara(we were planning to walk.) wonderful place, great people . The visit makes a nice day or half day trip and the cafe hosts various cultural and craft events . See their website .

We don’t have a car and only know basic Japanese and kana, so we had to work hard to get there. This is what we did:
Transport: take Kyoto bus 34 from Demachiyanagi station. Use exit 7 (escalator ) from the Keihan line and the bus “rotary” bus stop E is right outside . Take bus to terminus Shiroyama. Walk 3 mins straight ahead to farmhouse on left side of main road, down small incline (old road). We reserved our meal by email since we don’t have a phone.

    • Hi, Nancy! Thank you for your comment and for the tip on Cafe Millet! I’m so glad that you enjoy my blog and hope that you’ll continue to use my posts as information for dining out in Kyoto! Wow, three times to Kyoto? I guess I don’t blame you, I love Kyoto myself! 😉 I do recommend you drop into Whole Food Café Apprivoiser; the staff is really kind and very welcoming to visitors to Kyoto and the meal is very filling! Let me know you ever get to go sometime!
